AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0.1 The famous freeware AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition-8.0.1 is a antivirus protection tool that has gotten a lot of fame for its real time scanning capabilities to detect and remove security risks on your computer and also well, because it's free. And the neat thing is AVG Free Edition is available free of charge to home users for the life of the product which means users of AVG free edition would be getting some good protection and it would be free at the same time. Volk Defense has tried this program and we gotta say that AVG is simply one of the best freeware out there.
From our testing, it would seem that a freeware like AVG that works really good at the same time while it's free would be impossible to believe but it is real and this antivirus program offers good no bulls*** protection. AVG Free provides the necessary tools, including a real-time shield to prevent infections, anti-virus and anti-malware wrapped up in one engine, and a link scanner for Web surfing with care. One of the other things about AVG Free Edition is the updating of its virus definitions, it does it in a timely effective manner and the program is light and doesn't take too many system resources or in other words "hog" the system resources. This is too good to be free! AVG should start charging for this (Just Kidding).
When we did our testing on our dummy computer, we infected it with a rogue Spyware Program to see if AVG could catch it. And when we updated (which took less than 2 minutes to update) then we ran a scan, AVG was able to detect not only the files but the registry keys and many free anti-viruses miss that a lot. So in our rating we would give this as a really good Free Edition of an Anti-Virus. Now what I have to do is reformat my dummy computer once again.
Another thing that interests and at the same time impresses me a lot is the GUI (Graphical User Interface) of the program. Its has more of a web 2.0 look and doesn't look like those 1990 software programs (like Windows 98 Style). This is important because if you use Windows Vista or Windows XP, the look will match, which is really important. Why? Nobody wants a safe system but you at least got to make it look good...in someway. The thing is also, when you get free versions of any software, they usually come in a featureless and crappy GUI state.
