Separate? All-In-One? These days, it's not just about chatting anymore, it's all about chatting with many people at the same time using one program or maybe 4 at a time. But many users online still prefer having separate IM's such as AIM, MSN, YIM, XFIRE, IQ, etc. Let's face it, some of use (like me) want programs to be able to handle all. Well there are programs like that such as Chatstat or Meebo, but what about having separate IM Programs? What would you prefer? Well, we will just have to put the goods and bads of each option.
Having Separated IM Programs can be costly in system resources, while many new computers can handle running 4 programs at a time (or sometimes more than 4), disk space and computer speed is at risk when using all IM Programs at once or having them installed and using each of them whenever. But the point is that having too many IM programs will cause sometimes confusion (means opening the wrong IM) or simply crashing because of too many programs (and processes) running at a time. The good thing about having separate IM programs is that you get the FULL features of each IM program, while many online or Applications that have all-in-one IMs lack the VoIP feature of picture sharing and more, separate programs will do just fine because they have the full features.
On the other hand, having all-in-one programs is probably the best (for most of us) to use because overall applications like Chatstat or Trillion as well as online all-in-one chats like meebo or plugoo all help us faster to access everyone at a time without having to load any applications that could slow us down and take longer to load and also to have faster access to all your buddies without having to switch IM Windows all the time. That's that good side about all-in-one IM Programs because they use minimal use of disk space, speed, and overall system resources. The bad thing about having all-in-one programs (and yes there is a bad side) is that many who use those types of programs to handle multi-chats clients lack the features that many of us use such as VoIP, picture sharing, and sometimes even file uploads/downloads.
So the one that you choose mainly depends on what you prefer best, flexibility or features? If you are a type of business person that uses IM Clients to chat business then all-in-one programs ae for you, but if you are like gamers (mainly is what all of us are today) then separate IMs are the way to go, as you will need VoIP to talk to other friends online while pwning users (lol).
